Data Engineer

The Data Engineer role will focus on building, managing and optimizing data pipelines and then moving these data pipelines effectively into production for key data and analytics consumers (like business/data analysts, data scientists or any persona that needs curated data for data and analytics use cases). Data engineers also need to guarantee compliance with data governance and data security requirements while creating, improving and operationalizing these integrated and reusable data pipelines.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develop and maintain data pipelines using Azure Data Factory.
• Design, build and test the data models, data imports and reports to meet business requirements, including supporting User Acceptance Testing. 
• Write complex SQL stored procedures and ensure their stability, reliability, and performance in Snowflake.
• Collaborate closely with the wider IT team to establish and enforce data warehousing best practices.
• Ensure system compliance with data security and privacy policies.
• Troubleshoot data-related problems and undertake maintenance or modifications.
• Participate in design and code reviews, ensuring best practices are followed.
• Proactively work with the Data Engineering team to document and improve existing data engineering standards and procedures.
• Work closely with the Analytics and IT teams, as well as other business stakeholders to understand and meet data needs.
• Work alongside multiple stakeholders with competing priorities and ensure robust documentation management.
• Possess the ability to independently resolve intricate problems and demonstrate innovative thinking and automation skills will be highly valued.

SKILLS / COMPETENCIES

• Minimum of 3+ years of experience as a Data Engineer or in a similar role.
• Certifications related to Azure or Snowflake would be desirable. 
• Strong experience with Azure Data Factory and SQL stored procedures (in Snowflake preferred).
• Strong experience working with large, heterogeneous datasets in building and optimising data pipelines, pipeline architectures and integrated datasets using ADF.
• Knowledge of Python or other scripting languages is an added advantage.
• It's good to be familiar with Snowflake or other cloud-based data warehouses (Amazon Redshift, Azure SQL Server, Azure Synapse, Google Cloud Platform).
• Deep understanding of data warehousing concepts and best practices.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
• Strong English communication skills, both written and spoken, are crucial.
• Strong analytical skills with a problem-solving attitude.
