Senior Backend Developer

As a Senior Backend Developer, you will design and develop scalable, secure Java and Spring Boot microservices that power data-driven solutions across engineering teams. You will contribute to backend architecture, uphold coding standards, and ensure high-quality, maintainable systems. Working in close collaboration with frontend developers, product stakeholders, and the lead engineer, you will build robust solutions aligned with architectural and agile principles.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Design and develop scalable, maintainable backend microservices using Java and Spring Boot, aligned with defined architecture principles.
• Contribute to backend architecture discussions and implementation of reusable service patterns.
• Participate in code reviews and provide constructive technical feedback to peers.
• Work closely with frontend developers to integrate RESTful APIs and ensure seamless functionality.
• Build and maintain integrations with AWS services, including ECS Fargate, Lambda, S3, DynamoDB, RDS, SQS, and KMS.
• Implement performance optimisation, error handling, retry mechanisms, and testing best practices.
• Implement logging, monitoring, and tracing to support system observability and reliability.
• Identify and resolve production issues, supporting system stability and performance.
• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and support DevOps-driven development workflows.
• Actively participate in agile ceremonies and continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Requirements:

• 5+ years of backend development experience with strong expertise in Java and Spring Boot.
• Experience designing and working with microservices and distributed systems.
• Solid understanding of RESTful APIs and event-driven architectures (Kafka, SQS).
• Experience with relational (PostgreSQL, RDS) and NoSQL (DynamoDB) databases.
• Experience in Unit testing is a must. TDD experience is highly valued.
• Knowledge of Hibernate and JPA internals. 
• Experience working in agile environments (Scrum/SAFe).
• Good to have experience with AWS.

Special Requirements for the Role:

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• Be a self-starter, problem solver, with a positive attitude and great attention to detail.
• Strong English communication skills, both written and spoken.
• Ability to work independently within defined architectural guidelines.
• Interest in mentoring junior developers and contributing to knowledge sharing.
• Structured, proactive approach with a focus on quality and continuous improvement.
