We are seeking a Senior PHP/WordPress Developer with deep experience in full-stack development and a strong understanding of infrastructure and production systems. This high-impact role is suited for someone who can go beyond application coding and help build scalable, secure, and performant WordPress-based platforms. We work across multiple programming languages and adopt Test-Driven Development and Continuous Deployment.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Engineering & Development:
- Design, develop, test, and debug custom WordPress plugins, integrations and themes tailored to business needs.
- Write clean, testable, and high-performance PHP code using modern practices.
- Collaborate with front-end developers and designers to implement responsive and accessible user interfaces.
Infrastructure & DevOps:
- Manage WordPress deployments in production, including using version control, planning and execution, and monitoring and optimising the deployments.
- Work closely with DevOps and infrastructure teams to manage deployments, CI/CD pipelines, and production readiness.
- Configure and troubleshoot web servers (Nginx, Apache) and reverse proxy setups.
- Implement and tune caching strategies (object caching, page caching, etc.) and CDN integrations (e.g., Cloudflare, Akamai).
- Monitor and improve application performance and scalability through log analysis, profiling tools, and server-side tuning.
Production Support & Diagnostics
- Analyse HTTP traffic, debug and resolve 4xx/5xx response errors, and monitor uptime and performance metrics.
- Conduct root cause analysis and log investigations (using tools like ELK stack, Datadog, or similar).
- Support incident response and coordinate with 3rd-party vendors such as WordPress hosting and CDN providers.
Collaboration & Ownership
- Work with cross-function
- al teams including Product, Design, QA, and Data Engineering.
- Provide technical leadership within the WordPress space.
- Participate in sprint planning, story estimation, and stakeholder demos.
SKILLS / COMPETENCIES:
- 6+ years of experience in PHP development.
- 2+ years of working experience, specifically in WordPress and MySQL.
- Proven experience in both frontend and backend WordPress development.
- Expertise in custom plugins and theme development.
- Proficiency with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and RESTful APIs.
- Experience with large multisite WordPress setups.
- Strong understanding of SEO best practices.
- Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git) and modern software architecture principles.
- Experience with web hosting environments, server management, and cloud infrastructure (e.g., AWS/GCP).
- Exposure to DevOps practices, CI/CD, and production deployments.
- Experience with Caching, CDNs, and server configuration (e.g., Nginx).
- Ability to analyse logs, resolve HTTP errors, and address performance issues in live environments.
- Strong communication, teamwork, and the ability to work across multiple projects and deadlines.
