Software Engineer I

Our Partner (JHT), is one of the largest fitness equipment manufacturers in the world. The company manufactures a wide assortment of fitness equipment for both commercial and residential use, including treadmills, elliptical trainers, exercise bikes and strength training equipment. 

Our Partner is headquartered in Taiwan, with global product development, marketing, and engineering teams based in Cottage Grove, Wis, United States.

As the Software Engineer I, you will be involved in the development of software for fitness consoles with global R&D teams. You will participate in writing code for UI, machine control, and Unit and Instrumentation Tests. You will develop clear requirements, improve software quality, and help maintain industry-standard software practices and must have a  strong capability to anticipate and resolve engineering development challenges early and effectively.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develop applications using modern web development stacks and upgrade constantly.
• Will implement scalable applications that meet business requirements and can be distributed globally.
• Participate in the technical design of new applications and make sure the documentation requirements are met. 
• Identify and fix bugs to improve performance
• Coordinate with the design and test teams to create apps with high performance
• Should incrementally deliver applications as part of an Agile software development team

SKILLS / COMPETENCIES

• A minimum of 3 years of experience in UI-based application development - Android Studio experience.
• Should have a minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in Java.
• 2 years of experience in Kotlin is mandatory. 
• Strong knowledge of Android SDK, different versions of Android, and how to deal with different screen sizes.
• Hands-on experience with built-in and integration unit testing is a must.
• Familiarity with RESTful APIs to connect Android applications to back-end services.
• Experience with Object-oriented programming is a must.
• Experience with scripting languages such as Python or Javascript is an added advantage.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS FOR THE ROLE

• Should have 3+ years of experience in mobile application development.
• Clear communicator (written and verbal) – to ensure understanding of requirements
• Strong software engineering and general problem-solving skills
• Should have good judgment and decision making skills; responsible and motivated; passionate about learning new things.
